The best birthday ever!!
There are no words to describe how fortunate I was getting reservations for Club 33 for my 27th birthday. I definitely couldn't have done it without the help of a fellow Disney lover, Christi, for working her magic and getting me reservations. Thank you, Christi, for the best birthday ever!
A little about Club 33 is that it is an exclusive club in Disneyland limited to only members and corporates with memberships. The only way to get reservations here is to be a member or get invited by a member. I, unfortunately, do not have $10K laying around for the yearly fee, let alone the $25K for the initiation fee. And even if I did have the money, I heard the waiting list was 14 years long! So you can only imagine how excited I was when I heard that I was confirmed for a dinner on my birthday.
Even though, my birthday was on a weekday, it was also Veteran's Day so schools were out. At one point, I was checking Twitter and it said that the parking lots were closed due to reaching capacity! Luckily when we arrived, we had no troubles getting into the Toy Story parking lot. We were running short on time because I had a hair appointment that took half the day. And definitely no complaints because we still made it before our reservations with some time to kill.
Before Nick and I rung the bell, we actually wanted to take a picture prior to walking through the door. Nick has been in Club 33 before as a Cast Member during his shift. I obviously freaked out because one of the first times Nick was sent there, he didn't realize what Club 33 was and how exclusive it was.
The first time I had rung the doorbell, no one answered. I assumed I didn't press hard enough or they get people ringing the doorbell so often throughout the day that they ignore the first ring. The second time, a cast member asked how they can help us and I informed that we had reservations. The cast member said for us to hold on and then the door opened. We stepped right into the first floor lobby. I did quite a bit of research prior to our visit, but I was not expecting the first floor lobby being a little room and then having another doorway to walk out into the Court of Angels. It all happened so quickly that I didn't really register what was even in the first floor lobby. Once we stepped out into the Court of Angel, we were offered refreshments while waiting for our table. I was smiling from ear to ear this whole evening and just wanted to take in as much as possible so excuse the crazy smiles.
Once our table was ready, we took the steps up to the Club entrance and was taken to our seats. Since we were not with a member, we were only allowed in the Le Grand Salon for dinner. Had we had a member with us, we would've had access to the Le Salon Nouveau, the club's lounge.
As we were entering the dining area, there was about five to six other tables already occupied. I think we were the last reservation because I didn't notice another group coming in after us. Nick and I were seated next to the window leading out to the balcony.
Nick and I decided to splurge for the six course dinner because why not? It is a once in a lifetime dinner and I only turn 27 once ;) Since Club 33 is the only place that serves alcohol in Disneyland, Nick and I each ordered a drink. He got the mint julep and I got myself a moscow mule.
While we were waiting for our meal, I decided to take the opportunity to go exploring the infamous Club 33 restroom. It was all so detailed with the swan on the faucet and the Club 33 logo on the napkins. Confession: the Asian inside of me decided to take some napkins for souvenir.
When I came back, my napkin was nicely folded into a suit shaped napkin. Seriously, so clever and attentive the servers were for our first experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this evening and wish I could go back in time.
Disney pays attention to every little detail. Before I left, our waiter gave me a birthday card with most of the Club's cast member signatures and a bag of macarons. I currently can't find the card right now, but once I do, I will have to scan it and show you guys.
By the time we were done with dinner. It was almost time for the Fantasmic show so we stepped out onto the balcony, took pictures, and enjoyed the show with our spectacular view.
After Fantasmic was over, we continued to be annoying and explored the Club. Since it was a rather slow night, we were free to roam around with the exception of going into Le Salon Nouveau. Christi told me to just walk and sneak a peek into the lounge, but I didn't want to embarrass myself walking down the wine closet and possibly getting rejected. After we purchases our souvenirs, we signed the guestbook, and sadly said our goodbyes to the Club.
One of the best nights of my life. Thank you to all the family and friends that wished me a Happy Birthday. It'll definitely be hard to top this birthday. Another big thank you to Christi for making this night so memorable and enjoyable, it definitely wouldn't have happened without her.
